Baguio City is the Place to Relax
For years the City of Baguio has been classed as the summer vacation for many Pinoys. The reason is that it is up a mountain and rains a hell of a lot. It is the only place in the Philippines where I have actually seen chimney pots on the houses. It is a beautiful city with its American designed park and lake. It has a great feel about it- the cold!
The City looks and feels clean and the quality of food and fresh produce leaves Manila standing still. Try the Strawberries they are just perfect.
Baguio was established by the Americans in 1900 and was promptly named the Summer Capital of the Philippines. That’s why you can see old American Colonial buildings almost everywhere you go. Casa Vallejo is one of the establishments from that era.
Session Road is the heart and soul of Baguio, as many locals would say. This famous strip is lined with restaurants ready for the most discriminating gourmet. Session Road is also famous for its nightlife. Have a couple of drinks at The Flying Gecko and sample their grilled bloody sausage.
Designed by and named after premier American architect and urban planner, Daniel Burnham. It is one of the famous tourist attraction in Baguio considering its location that lies at the heart of the city. Burnham Park remains, to this day, one of the Philippines’ most well-known and best-loved parks.
Mines View Park is undoubtedly the most visited park in the city offering a great panoramic view of Benguet’s gold and copper mines from the viewing deck. The best time to visit the park is at early in the morning to have the best view of the mountain unfolds since the area will be covered entirely with fog in the afternoon especially during rainy season.
Wright Park is just in front of The Mansion and is very accessible with all types of transportation. It has a long pool (pool of pines) lined with pine trees and flowers. Right below the wright park lies the horse riding circle where there are 200 horses for rent. Young ones and young at heart can enjoy riding a pony for one hour or half. No worries for you fellas who don’t know who to ride for the owners themselves will assist you at all times if you want.
The mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines. Originally built around 1900s, this house was damaged during the 2nd world war and was rebuilt during 1947. Since then it has been used by various Philippine presidents whenever they visit Baguio City.
