Want to acquire NSO Documents?
One of the legal documents that are usually accepted in the Philippines includes NSO ( National Statistics Office) certified documents. These NSO documents namely:
- Birth Certificate
- Death Certificate
- Marriage Contract
- Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR)
In the Philippines there are different NSO Office. It is usually located in the city proper. Some people who wants to go abroad, to enrol in college and any legal purposes they must first secure a copy of any of these documents from NSO. I was about to get mine because it is one of the requirements needed in applying for a passport. So here I am, I will share my experiences about it and just enumerating the process.
Cagayan de Oro NSO Experience!
If you lived out of the city or from any provinces that is far from Cagayan de Oro, then you have to wake up as early as possible. In my case, I lived in Claveria which is a two hour drive to Cagayan de Oro so I have to catch the first trip. I left home at three o’clock in the morning and reach NSO around five o’clock. I was shocked when I get because I thought I was early enough to be in the front of the queue. But oh my! in my own calculation I think the queue was already 200 metes or more. We waited until 6:00 o’clock , until the security guard was handing us numbers. Guess what’s mine? I was the 297 person waiting, and I have to wait 296 people to finish before I can start my documents processed. Well, anyway since I really need it to be done I think I just be very patience with it until I get it. The office started calling applicants name at 8:00 am, I thought my turn still far away so I decided to have breakfast across the highway where cafeteria are located. I waited and waited, It’s already lunch time and my number is not called yet. It takes ages maybe before I get this all done. At exactly 1:00 pm my number was called and there I have my form ready and submitted to the counter Number 1 for verification. Next is to the cashier and waiting again for the release of the documents. The only requirememt needed is your valid id. Phew! That was a long wait, I step out at the NSO office at exactly 3:00 pm on my watch. Imagine how much fuss it is. It takes me whole day just to get a one page document. I wonder if they will think of something to make this system a little bit faster. Applying online might be hassle free but it cost a little bit more and delivery time is longer compared to walk in application.
Fees for walk in Applicants – P140.00 (Birth, Marriage, Death) / P195.00 (Certificate of No Marriage Record). Documents available the same day.
Fees online Application – Php 315.00 for Birth, Marriage, Death Certificates ( 5-9 days Delivery) and Php 415.00 for CENOMAR ( 11-15 days delivery). It also depends on your location.
So if you are planning to get a NSO copied documents, then plan ahead and decide which is more convenient for you. Either avoiding the long queue and have it delivered on your door or joining the line and have the documents in your hand that day.
Tip : Make sure you take bottle of water and a little bit of snack with you, just in case you get hungry while in the line.
