Manila crime

How’s crime in Manila now?

It is no secret that Manila can be a very dangerous place for anyone, let alone naive foreigners walking around and getting drunk in bars. Manila  has become a place to be every careful in.From the moment you get out of the plane and enter a taxi you are liable to meet taxi drivers who are out to cheat you. My friend arrived here a few years ago for the first tie and his taxi driver took him  on a tour where another man got in the cab and they took him to an ATM and told him if he wanted to live he needed to clear out his ATM.

He never enjoyed his stay in the Philippines and he never came back.

Unfortunately there are many stories of crime and even murder of foreigners in the Philippines Also, unfortunately the serious crimes are not investigated as much in the west down to lack or manpower and equipment and the ease to pay people off at every level.

The expat forums are full of stories of expats being murdered for their money or over a petty argument with locals. I have recently moved to Pueto Galera and an Australian man was murdered and no investigation or police reporting about the case every happens. The mans family in Australia have tried everything to make the investigation move forward, but alas not hing happens. If a murder has connections he will have a better chance of paying off his problem. Corruption is the law in the Philippines.

Manila crime figures are not that easy to come by,as figures are not really kept as no police force wants to be on that list.
