Taste something new at Rumulus place.
Now, I have been writing online a good few years and I often get people saying to me “Please can you do an article about my place”. I mostly say no as it is NOT very often you find a place that is always good. Well I am going to tell you about a place now that is amazing. It is down to the owner/manager and amazing cook called Rumulus.
This Filipino man has been a laborer, Fisherman and ever a miner. He went to work in the Middle East and began a passion for food. I mean he really got a passion for food and became someone who found his vocation in life.
A couple of years ago he returned to the Philippines with limited monies he opened up a restaurant in White Beach, Puerto Galera in Mindoro. To be honest you could walk pass his place that is just off the beach and not notice it. Rumulus has many talents in the kitchen and keeping his guests happy, but marketing maybe one talent he has not yet achieved.
So, why am I talking about this man and his restaurant? Simple he produces for around p200 hotel quality meals that you would get in Manila for around p1000. Evey morning he gets up early to be the first to market and buy the best. He does not really have a shopping list, he rather looks for the best produce and meat and will create a western menu around that.
In other words, he has something new nearly everyday. You cannot get bored with the menu, and his cooking skills are amazing, especially when you consider 90% of his customers are westerners from different countries. They all love him and his food.
This an can produce Thai curry one day to Italian dishes the next. From amazing Chicken dishes to fresh fish with all the trimmings. He never stops trying to improve.
I was introduced to Rumulus last year and now its my place of choice in Puerto Galera. He will not impress you with his decor or his marketing skills. But, sit down and have an English Breakfast with REAL mushrooms, or enjoy an evening meal and this guy will blow you away with his passion and skills.
I asked him about business questions and he will mostly shrug his shoulders and smile. He will always talk about his guests being happy and the rest will follow. Well, his guests are happy and lets hope the rest will follow.
